About the event
We will showcase the beginning stages of creating one of Irving’s grow zones at Running Bear Park. There, a prairie restoration approach is being taken along with the intent to treat stormwater runoff from the park before it reaches into nearby Bear Creek. Drainage Program Specialist Jayce Proctor will teach us why grow zones are important for flood mitigation and watershed protection efforts. Guest speaker Nancy Payne will show how this also creates lush habitat for urban wildlife such as Monarchs! Meet leaders from our Parks and Recreation Department and the Capital Improvement Program Department, who have partnered to create and engineer forward-thinking sustainability projects, such as these grow zones, throughout Irving.
