Irving City Leadership accept funds from the State for Campion Trail.

On April 15, 2026, State Representative Cassandra Hernandez presented the City of Irving a $2.1 million contribution from the State of Texas to complete the final portion of Campion Trail that passes through Irving.

City leaders along with community partners were present at Bird's Fort Trail Park to celebrate this final milestone in this landmark trail system. This park is also home to the Butterfly Garden maintained by the Friends of Irving Gardens also known as "FIG."

Councilman Al Zapanta has pledged his support for FIG's initiatives and green spaces in Irving. See his comments below regarding the completion of Campion Trail.

I’m so proud to call Irving home.
It was great to join Mayor Stopfer, state, local, and community leaders for the Campion Trail check presentation, celebrating the completion of a project decades in the making.
This milestone helps connect our trail system across Irving and the region, and will be something families across Irving will be able to enjoy for years to come.
A special thank you to our state and county partners who helped make this possible—State Representative Cassandra Garcia Hernandez for securing the $2.1 million donation from the state to the City of Irving, and Dallas County Commissioner Elba Garcia, State Representative Rafael Anchía, and State Representative Armando Walle for their continued support of this $8.1 million project.
As your next Mayor of Irving, I will continue working to bring people together and support projects that strengthen our community and move Irving forward.
